The rule applies to Bulgarian and foreign-registered cars alike. Motorcycles and mopeds are exempt. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not use vignettes; they pay a distance-based toll instead.<\/p>\n<p>There is no physical sticker any more. Cameras read your number plate and check it against the electronic register, so you don&#8217;t need to carry a receipt.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Bulgarian vignette prices and validity (from 1 August 2026)<\/h2>\n\n<p>The new tariff for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes was adopted by a Council of Ministers decree and applies from 1 August 2026. Prices had not changed since the electronic vignette was introduced in 2019. It is valid for exactly 24 hours. If you activate it at 10:00 on 11 February, it runs until 09:59:59 on 12 February. Every type can be bought with a delayed start up to 30 days in advance, which is handy if you book before your holiday.<\/p>\n\n<h2>Which vignette is cheapest? Six typical trips<\/h2>\n\n<p>Most visitors overpay because they pick the vignette by name, not by dates. These examples were worked out with the calculator above.<\/p>\n\n<h3>1. A day trip from Sofia to Plovdiv or the Rila Monastery<\/h3>\n<p>Out in the morning, back in the evening: the <strong>one-day vignette at \u20ac5.30<\/strong> is enough. A weekly vignette would cost almost twice as much.<\/p>\n\n<h3>2. A weekend in Bansko or Borovets, Friday afternoon to Sunday night<\/h3>\n<p>If you set off after 12:00 on Friday and are back by 23:59 on Sunday, the <strong>weekend vignette at \u20ac6.60<\/strong> covers you. Three one-day vignettes would cost \u20ac15.90. Leaving on Friday morning? Then the weekend vignette does not cover the first hours.<\/p>\n\n<h3>3. A long weekend, Thursday to Sunday<\/h3>\n<p>A weekend vignette plus two one-day vignettes costs \u20ac17.20, and four one-day vignettes cost \u20ac21.20. Ten days on the Black Sea coast<\/h3>\n<p>Two weekly vignettes cost \u20ac20.00. <strong>One monthly vignette is \u20ac19.90<\/strong> and covers the whole stay with days to spare.<\/p>\n\n<h3>5. About two months in Bulgaria<\/h3>\n<p>Two monthly vignettes cost \u20ac39.80. The <strong>quarterly vignette is \u20ac35.90<\/strong>: cheaper, with an extra month included.<\/p>\n\n<h3>6. Vignettes are also sold by partner retailers such as petrol stations and some banking and mobile apps. Some third-party websites add a service fee, so always compare the final price with the official tariff above.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Choose the vignette type (the calculator helps).<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>country of registration<\/strong> and enter the number plate exactly as shown, without spaces.<\/li>\n<li>Choose the category for cars up to 3.5 tonnes.<\/li>\n<li>Pick the start date and time.
